B was the letter of the day -
Broken Wheels, Breakaways,
Blocking,
and Badass Davey!
|

Super race, great turnout for TOA and a 4th place for Davey winning the chase group
sprint! This Cat. 3/4 race on a perfect, warm fall morning in Prospect Park was a real treat with just a few races remaining this season. Jim, Doug, Brian, David, Ari and Jack all had fun attacking and later blocking for Davey!
|
|
The race was not without mishaps, David flatted his tubular front wheel on the start line but luckily got a spare from Khary. During the race, a rider rode into Doug's wheel knocking it out of true and Doug out of the race but luckily not off the bike.
Special thank you also goes to Phil, his wife, Alex and Khary for doing a
Steaz tasting promotion and cheering us on! We definitely heard you! Tamara took many photos of the race HERE and they go perfect with Davey's
report below! |

Davey: I found myself caught out before the race even started when I gave
Brian my one and only Sphincterine wipe. Everyone should try this
stuff. http://www.mintyass.com
I
thought I'd be fine giving away the Sphincterine, but ten minutes
before the start an urgent need arose without warning, and I found
myself in the bathroom frantically trying to find a stall that had
paper.
But it worked out, and within a moment I had joined the guys at
the start line, feeling sprightly and ready to race.

Brian The Hammer went off the front at go and established a break.
Apparently he was in a big hurry to get home. It lasted a lap or so. A
valiant effort.
This is how it went for the remainder. Lap after lap
went by, breaks would go, and get chased down. We were neutralized by
the Masters field once or twice as well, so on lap 9 (of 11) everyone
was still pretty much together, I think.
It felt like we were going
slowly. A few guys went again and got a gap, but I didn't recognize
any of them. Then I saw two riders I respect jump and give chase. I went with them. A few others went too.

It hurt for a while, but we all caught up with one another around the
top of the downhill on the east side of the park and it was there
where we seemed to gel. Someone said we had a decent gap. I
counted nine in our chase group.
There were still two
more guys farther up the road, out of sight.
The nine of us worked OK, but not fantastically. Some guys were
pulling harder and longer than others, and we weren't holding
formation too well on the uphills and downhills. But I guess it was
good enough.
I also heard the rest of youse guys were doing yeoman's
work blocking back in the peloton...
Kudos, and thanks!! |

Last kilometer: Finally the two leaders were in sight. I was
determined to hold something back for the sprint. I didn't want to go
too hard and come in last in the break like I did in July in Central Park. 500
meters to go and the group started to splinter.
One rider did attack and
caught the first two! ...Another in our group looked OK so I decided I would stay on his wheel
until about 200 out and then give it all I had. At 200 I sprinted,
passed others and crossed the line in 4th place. Maybe with a mintier
ass I could have gotten third.
Thanks again to all the guys for blocking! |

Congratulations Davey on a great race!
You were out of sight pretty fast and we were grateful for the chance to simply block. TOA all the way!!!!!
