Everyday more of our foods contain genetically modified (“GM”) ingredients and we are becoming the guinea pigs to consume unlabeled foods containing foreign cross-species genes. During certain studies it has been found that rodents fed with GM corn developed allergies, anemia, high blood pressure, increased blood sugar levels, kidney inflammation, liver and kidney lesions, and other negative changes. No one should have to take the chance to eat GM foods without them being fully scrutinized through long intensive independent testing and trials.
Certain GM plants are modified to persist under heavier use of fertilizer which could result in increasing pollution to surrounding air, water and soil. Other GM crop varieties may be lethal to whole species of insects. Add to this monocrop and other factory farming methods and results could include irreparable damage in various complicated food chains ultimately causing extinction to entire ecosystems of life.
In addition, cross pollination of GM varieties with organic farms is destroying the purity of all organically grown products. Ability to patent and own genes gives companies control of cross pollinated crops and ultimately all food production. As it gets more expensive to find pure organic ingredients, organic foods will cost more and move further out of reach to lower income families.
